开始:VCALENDAR方法:发布开始:VEVENT DESCRIPTION:Near You Event - Abul Kalam Design Challenge National Finale 20 18\n\nEvent Type: Competition event\n\nIndustry Sector: Cross-sector\n\nSp eak Details: \n\nDescription : \n\nThe signature event of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)\, the National Design Challenge was held at the National University of Sciences and Technology\, NUST\, Islamabad. Four teams from all over Pakistan competed to be crowned the National Cham pions. These four teams had earned the rights to compete at this stage of the competition by winning the rounds held at their individual chapters. \ nThe chief guest for the competition was Dr. David Ball\, Chairman Design Challenge of IMechE United Kingdom\, who came all the way from UK to atten d the event. \nThis year the students were required to construct an Intern al Pipe Climbing Device. The device was to climb inside a transparent pipe of certain preset dimensions and return to the point of launch. The objec tive being to achieve this in the minimum time possible. The competition a lso had the following four phases:\n\n \n Heats\n \n \n Pos ter Competition\n \n \n Presentation\n \n \n Peer review \n \n\nEach phase had a certain percentage allotted to it in the final score.\nThe event started at around 10:15 am with the arrival of Dr. David Ball at the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SMME)\, N UST. The guests also included four judges from different industries. \n\n\ n\nAfter the opening ceremony the guests had their seats and the heats sta rted. There were three teams from NUST and one team from NED University\, Karachi. Each team had to complete four heats. The best time was recorded for team &ldquo\;Mech Mavericks&rdquo\; at 3.66 seconds. The enthusiasm an d zeal shown by the crowd was thrilling. They cheered every device as it m ade its ascend to the top of the pipe. \n\n\n\nUp next was the poster comp etition. The judges and Dr. Ball visited each team&rsquo\;s station and in spected their devices while sharing their thoughts with the team members. \n\n \; \; \; \;\n\n\n\nAfter the poster competition\, t he presentation phase was conducted in the conference room. All the teams aptly described their device and its features while narrating the challeng es that they had to overcome in the pursuit. After the presentations\, the judges and competitors were served lunch.\n\n\n\n \; \; \;& nbsp\;\nThe closing ceremony commenced at 3 pm. Pro rector NUST was also i nvited as guest for the ceremony. The results of the Design Challenge were announced. \nAfter an eventful day the final standings were announced as follows:\n\n 1st \;Position: \;Team \;Mech Mavericks \; consisting of Mr. Hasnat Aman\, Mr. Hashir Naeem\, Mr. Hamza Naeem\, Mr. M unim Moazzam Dar and Mr. Muhammad Ahmad Saeed\n 2nd \;Position:&nbs p\;Team \;Spades \;which had Ms. Mahnoor Bilal\, Mr. Muhammad Ali\ , Mr. Jawad Ali\, Mr. Rizwan Farooq and Mr. Mohsin Basheer as its members\ n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. David Ball was then invited to express his feelings abo ut the event. He praised the competitors\, the event managers and said tha t the efforts made by IMechE Pakistan were commendable to say the least. H e also explained the origins of IMechE and the Design Challenge which grea tly attracted the interest of the audience. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe guests were th en given special souvenirs.
