He is a graduate of Glasgow University and also holds a DSc from Aberdeen.\n\nDescription : About the event\nThe Mechanical and Manuf acturing division in association with The Institution of Mechanical Engine ers Republic of Ireland branch are honoured to host IMechE President Profe ssor Joe McGeough on his visit to Ireland to deliver his Presidential Addr ess.\nIn this address\, \;"How 'Theo' Williamson FRS changed the sound of music" \;Joe takes inspiration from Theo Williamson as a role mode l for Engineers. \; He explores his life and career and describes his legacy as a shining example to all engineers\, but especially young engine ers\, of those qualities which best capture the essence of what it is to b e an engineer - creativity\, problem solving and the need for perseverance .\nAbout the speaker\nProfessor Joe McGeough CEng FIMechE - President of I MechE\nJoe is an Honorary Professorial Fellow in the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. \; He is a graduate of Glasgow Univer sity and also holds a DSc from Aberdeen.\nHis main field of research is ma nufacturing and especially unconventional (electrochemical) machining. He has been awarded prizes for his research by both IMechE and the Society fo r Underwater Technology\, as well being a recipient of a Royal Society ind ustrial Fellowship.\nHe has worked to extend electrochemical machining (EC M) methods to surgery\, helping establish an orthopaedic engineering centr e in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. His collaboration with surgeons has looked at the engineering analysis of back pain and the effects of age on the mechanical properties of bone.\nJoe is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh\, the Royal Academy of Engineering\, and the International So ciety for Nanomanufacturing as well as being Emeritus Fellow of the Intern ational Academy for Production Engineering.\nHe has held visiting Universi ty appointments at Naples\, Glasgow Caledonian\, Monash\, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology\, and Dublin City.
