This event has finished
Description

Lightweight composite materials are becoming more important in many industrial applications including transport (aerospace, automotive, rail and marine) and energy production (wind and ocean energy). Irish companies North and South of the Border are becoming more involved in the composite materials supply chain, as end-users or suppliers of materials, products and services into the global composites industry.

The talk will present the activities of the Irish Centre for Composites Research, an industrially-driven research centre jointly funded by Enterprise Ireland, IDA and an industrial consortium of 10 indigenous and multinational companies. ICOMP is hosted at the University of Limerick, and also includes funded activities at UCD. A parallel centre has been established in Northern Ireland (NIACE) and cooperation is underway between the two Centres. Examples will be given of the various industrial research activities at the Centre, and the plans for equipment and space development will be presented. The potential for economic development for Ireland in the growing composites industry will also be discussed.
