After a brief introduction to theRailway Industry Cluster Saxony (BTS) by the Project Manager Dirk-Ulrich Krueger, the keynote will be given by Prof. Hecht.

The presentation will cover a wide spectrum of future technology challenges facing rail transport globally. These will includenew materials requirements, noise control, energy efficiency, passenger experience, economic feasibility of rail infrastructure etc. as applied to both urban light rail and mainliners.

It should provide an exciting opportunity for Irish companies and relevant academic institutions to get visibility of future market opportunities that could inform collaborative strategic research agendas in the future.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Hecht: Is one of only three professors in Germany specialising in rail vehicle construction/engineering. He is Professor at Technical University of Berlin. Besides his academic position and his role in the BTS cluster he is very active in the rail industry globally.
