A global renaissance in manufacturing is taking place. Ireland being a relatively small, open economy can benefit greatly or can suffer badly in competitiveness and job retention and creation terms if we do not position ourselves carefully and the right investments are made in applied manufacturing R&D and innovation. The investment to-date in Manufacturing R&D and in the training & education of apprentices, technicians and engineers in advanced manufacturing in Ireland has been at the low end of the scale. This paper highlights some of the top global developments and issues which directly impact on the future competitiveness of the Irish nation and where our coordinated strategy for Advanced Manufacturing R&D and Innovation needs significant and urgent development. The “Storm” is rapidly gathering over Ireland in the important strategic area of innovation and R&D in “Irish Manufacturing”. Jobs and economic development are at the core. This paper is relevant to those interested in and associated with sustainable manufacturing from the industrial, educational, policy and political perspectives and in particular to those interested in ensuring that Ireland is positioning itself appropriately in R&D and Innovation for the next wave of development of global advanced sustainable manufacturing. This event wil be followed by dinner. Which can be booked by emailing the contact person below.
