Technical Visit to the Stuttgart-Ulm High Speed Rail Project (also known as STUTTGART 21)

The IMechE Germany Group is delighted to announce , in association with ICE Germany, the Organisation of a technical visit to the Stuttgart-Ulm high speed rail project (also known as Stuttgart 21), followed by the opportunity to see the manufacture of the tunnelling machines at the factory of Herrenknecht AG, all of which will take place onFriday 18th November.

The meeting point is the Reception Desk at the Turm Forum at the South end of the main hall of the Stuttgart Main Station at 10:00. For those arriving directly by train or by S-Bahn from the airport, follow signs to “Turm Forum” or ask at the DB Information Desk. For those coming by car, the Main Station is well signposted and underground parking is available near the station. The Tower is visible from the City.

overvie参观展览和项目w presentation by Peter Reinhart from the DB Project Team will last approximately 3 hours. Depending on the activity on site, the weather and the number of participants, a visit to Block 16 of the foundations for the new underground station may be possible.

For more information on the project including the tunneling works and the Ulm-Stuttgart high speed line seewww.bahnprojekt-stuttgart-ulm.defor progress reports, webcams and detailled technical descriptions of the many components of this huge project. Should there be sufficient interest in a visit to the tunneling works in 2017 this can be arranged directly with the project team during our stay.

From the Main Station, we will travel by coach to the Herrenknecht Tunnel Boring Machine production facility in Schwanau, South of Straßburg where we will be met by Dr. Gerhard Wehrmeyer, Bereichsleiter PM1 Traffic Tunnelling. Following a tour of the facility and a presentation of the range of Herrenkecht TBMs, we will return by coach to Stuttgart in time for connections to most destinations. Of course, following the visit to Herrenknecht, AG, it will be possible to leave the coach at points on the route to prolong your stay in the Süd-Schwarzwald or Straßburg area.
