With the advances in communication systems, the development of the internet of things being one highlight, having an impact on industry and playing a major role in Industry 4.0, it will be of interest to Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineers to see how some of the standards the govern these developements are arrived at.There are two speakers from ETSI,the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. ETSIproduces globally-applicable standards for Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), including fixed, mobile, radio, converged, broadcast and Internet technologies. Their standards enable the technologies on which business and society rely.Hermann will talk about the role that ETSI have and what work they do.Gerry will talk about how the work then is implemented in terms of one of the working groups on the area of M2M.An additional speaker Tatenda Mudehwe a postgraduate in ITT Dublin who is using their standards to write a simulation of the vehicle to vehicle communication potential will give a short presentation of her work.A short question and answer session will follow the lecture. To give a flavor of what they are involved in, they are holding a series of events on the Smart World as well as IOT and M2M topics in the coming weeks.
