TheICEare organising a site visit to theEOLE La Défense CNIT station, where excavations are ongoing for the future RER E railway station beneath the CNIT. ICE have extended the invitation to this event to the French branches of the other engineering institutions.

The event is being run by kind invitation of Michel Pré, Director of Underground Projects at Setec TPI, responsible for the design and supervision of the deep underground work to create the new cavernous EOLE station for the RER E high speed suburban railway extension beneath the foundations of the vaulted dome of the CNIT conference centre at La Défense.

He will explain the project to transfer load from the existing piled foundations of the CNIT building onto a new substructure. This allows excavation of the ground beneath to create the volume for the two-platform station for long trains with approach tunnels plus the corresponding infrastructure for pedestrian access & circulation.

Corridor tunnels, escalator shafts & stairwells and a new ticket hall spanning the platforms connect the new deep station to the conference centre above and the adjacent RER A & metro concourse and exterior.

The group will then visit the site to inspect progress of the works.

Numbers for the site visit limited to 20, so early registration will ensure a place.
