Description

Eastern Region South Essex Area Making Music: What makes a musical instrument sing? Speaker: Dr Maria Pavlidou - Outreach Officer - University of Birmingham Musical instruments have been an integral part of human culture for at least 60,000 years. Throughout their history they have evolved in a great variety of sizes, shapes and sound qualities that reflected the ever-changing requirements of their players. In this talk Dr Pavlidou will describe the most important parameters, as we understand them today, which affect the quality of the sound produced in stringed, wind and percussion instruments. Experimental techniques used in musical acoustics research will be discussed. Parking at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford Campus

After 4:30 pm all car parks within the campus are available for free parking via a barrier which requires alerting security on entry, via a button at the barrier. The nearest car park is on the east side of the Queens building on Hoffmans Way but this is often full by 7:00 pm. A good alternative is the student village which has 84 spaces reached from Bishops Hall Lane and Ransomes Way. For those who are prepared for a short walk there is the Tindal Building car park with 63 spaces reached from Alan Cherry Drive. Avoid the Rivermead Gate shopper’s car park which is limited to one hour and is not part of the campus. All of these car parks are shown on the Chelmsford Campus map:
