Train travel is very safe but accidents at the Platform Train Interface (PTI) account for a significant proportion of the harm caused to railway passengers and this is one of the few risks on the railway that is not improving. Bridget will discuss some of the challenges facing the industry in managing the PTI risk on a historic, mixed traffic railway and look at some of the actions that are being taken, or can be taken, to improve this important area.

Vivarail was born in 2015. In four short years the company has designed, built and had mainline certified its first 3-car diesel electric multiple unit (230001), the UK’s first battery-only EMU for 50 years (230002), a fleet of three 2-car DEMUs for West Midlands Trains and is now in the middle of building a further five 3-car diesel-battery hybrid trains for Wales and Borders.
