Raytheon Quadcopter Challenge

As part of Raytheon UK’s commitment to STEM, there is an annual Quadcopter challenge given to schools local to each of Raytheon’s UK locations. The winners of the regionals are invited to compete in a national final.

Schools are invited to build, customise and fly a Quadcopter donated by Raytheon in a competition environment. Points are awarded for design, the quality of a presentation and a timed flight through a number of obstacles such as hoops and a pole slalom.

This years theme was Technology across the world with a focus on India. Designs covered delivery of aid packages as well as endangered Tiger spotting and cataloguing.

4 teams entered the Broughton final with Ysgol Clywedog proving the winners. A total of 50 pupils and teachers attended together with a number of Raytheon STEM ambassadors who ran the event.

One judge was John Pollard, the IMechE Merseyside and North Wales regional chairman, who presented vouchers on behalf of the IMechE to the winning team.
