Location:
Tees Valley, Durham, Darlington, Middlesbrough, Northumberland, Newcastle, Sunderland and surrounding areas (Nearly all of the North East England!)
Summary of role:
One would be joining the panel as a volunteering member with scope of taking on governing roles (including Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Hon Secretary, Web Admin, Publicity Officer etc) and event organising responsibilities once familiar with the systems and processes. Our activities funded by the Institution through member subscriptions, supports membership needs by providing Learned Society lectures and knowledge sharing opportunities in our local area. You could help to continue the good work in fostering interested young people into Engineering (including at schools though the Greenpower initiative which we heavily support), organise local talks and events relevant to the industry and contribute to the overall strategic objectives of IMechE. Training will be provided for all roles of office with possibility to attend the annual IMechE Volunteer Conference which is a great networking opportunity. Our members have previously been selected to attend the Annual IMechE dinner in London and have also been awarded outstanding contribution to education award by IMechE.
Specific requirements:
Only requirement is to be a subscribing active member of the institution. Members at all levels from students to retirees with interest in On and Off highway systems are welcome to join us. You need not work in the industry to be part of the panel, enthusiasts and members with interest in automobile technology are welcome. Time spent in panel activities would count towards personal development for MPDS and CPD. These roles would allow panel members to join the Automobile Division Board at IMechE HQ represented by industry leaders and input into the activities and delivery of the Automobile agenda within the IMechE. By being part of the panel, there is much scope to consider new ways of providing value to the members, and satisfying the local demand for Auto activities while representing your company and expressing their views at this prestigious industrial forum.
Time commitment:
承诺的时间是最少的,远低于you think. We tend to meet once a month over teleconference to discuss our activities and to brainstorm event ideas. This is usually on a Wednesday and flexible around our panel member availability. The committee also meets face to face once every 3-4 months for 1-2 hrs on a Wednesday evening in or around Durham. Overall about 1-2 hrs a month is all the time you would need to set aside to be involved and rewarded! Most of our current panellists are supported by their respective companies for the involvement in the panel and recognised for their work within the institution.
