    Gateshead Council and Gateshead Energy Company (GEC) have run the Gateshead District Energy Scheme since 2018, supplying council buildings, homes and venues, such as Sage and BALTIC, with low cost, low carbon heat and power. Committed to reducing emissions to net zero by 2030, GEC is adding the UKs largest minewater heat pump - 6MW - to the network, as well as 4MW of urban solar parks, ready for operation by Spring 2022.
