Overview

Our modern world is full of thousands of emitters – from power plants, steel works, fertiliser plants, cement plants and a myriad of other vital manufacturers and industries that help make our economy work.

In a net zero world, all these individual plants need to decide how to reduce and ultimately end their carbon emissions.

They can either change their feedstocks to a zero carbon source (such as green hydrogen) or pay the predicted high taxes that continued emissions will entail. A third option is to capture their carbon emissions, and then safely and permanently store them underground.

Therefore, Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) will have a pivotal role in supporting the energy transition and achieving the worlds net zero ambition. In addition, having a network of carbon storage locations around the globe, will also permit safe and low carbon production of Blue Hydrogen, another energy vector that can be produced cost effectively and at scale, and replace natural gas quickly in many industrial uses.

The idea of Carbon Capture has been around from many years but until recently has not been ‘in vogue’ resulting in a low level of investment into the necessary technology and few projects at scale. The world is waking up to the scale and short timeframe, needed to achieve net zero by 2050. Indeed the next 10 years will be decisive in setting our trajectory to achieving or missing our targets. This has catapulted CCUS to the forefront of many conversations in the energy industry, and we’re beginning to see a wave of CCUS projects across the UK and Europe.

This Webinar provides an insight into CCUS, its importance in the energy transition and the opportunities this creates for individuals working within the Oil & Gas and other sectors
