Description

Composite Bogies

CaFiBo is a novel carbon fibre composite railway bogie frame incorporating a high proportion of recycled fibre. It also incorporates a fibre optic strain gauge system for condition monitoring of the structure. The bogie was created as part of a project funded by RSSB aimed at reducing vehicle mass and track damage and the project was delivered by a consortium of organisations including ELG, Magma Structures, Alstom, University of Birmingham and University of Huddersfield.
