    Gareth Tucker will give an overview of the cutting-edge research and test equipment installed in the Institute of Railway Research’s new £4.5M laboratory facility at the University of Huddersfield. The laboratory will significantly boost fundamental research, advancing the science of wheel-rail interaction vehicle dynamics, materials technology and emerging research areas such as remote condition monitoring systems (RCM) and Big Data analytics as part of the developing digital railway.

    The Class 769 Flex is a bi-mode electro-diesel multiple unit converted from the existing Class 319 electric multiple unit through the addition of a pair of MAN diesel engines to drive ABB alternators for the existing electric traction systems. Helen Simpson and Simon Evans will take us through their development from concept to testing and production.
