Research and innovation support the industry in achieving these aims and Mark Phillips will give an overview of current research activity supported by the RSSB.

    The Merseyrail fleet of Class 507/508 Electrical Multiple Units was manufactured between 1978 and 1980 and is approaching 40 years old. The trains are among the oldest in the UK still in operation and are nearing the end their operational life, so the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has taken the decision to replace the fleet. David Powell will describe the procurement process and give an update on the progress of the project.
