The first Pendolino went into service in 2002 and since that time the demands on the fleet have grown significantly. Operating an intensive service, by the end of 2012 the fleet had already accumulated over 100 million miles. The maintenance of the vehicles has developed over time to become what it is today, a round-the-clock intensive production operation. The evolution of plant and equipment essential for the effective delivery of track maintenance and renewal has been influenced by the policy decisions and events that have fundamentally changed the structure and shape of our railway network over the past six decades.
