Visit Details

Only 20 spaces available for this free guided visit of EDF Hunterston B, one of the UKs best known advanced gas-cooled reactors.

The tour will formally begin at 6pm at the Visitor Centre and will lasts approximately 1.5 – 2 hours. Once through security, we will go up through the site and onto the power station where experienced guides will take us to two different viewing galleries to discuss the end to end process of power generation at the EDF Energy Hunterston B site.

Minibus transport

A free minibus has been arranged to transport attendees from the centre of Glasgow to the EDF Visitor Centre site location.

Expected return to Glasgow City Centre at around 22:00

Event Registration - Protocol Briefing

When visiting the EDF Energy Nuclear Generation location there are a number of safety and security requirements that will need to be undertaken by you as a visitor.

Entry to the site cannot proceed without certain information being given by all visitors. This has been detailed below.

Preparing for our Tour

Before arriving all attendees will be required to supply some personal details such as your:

  • Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Nationality (also dual nationality)
  • Home Address

If this applies to you, please complete and return this form toglsgwymvicechair@imechenearyou.org, immediately upon registering for this event in order to allow sufficient time for the form to be processed.

NOTE: On the day of the tour, all visitors will also need to bring some photographic proof of identification which confirms nationality.The preferred proof of identification is a current valid Passport.All other forms of photographic proof of identification i.e. driving licence will also require submission of a birth certificate issued within 6 weeks of birth(if you were born in the UK) or a “Non British Citizens Entry Check Form” (if your were born outside of the UK).

On the day of our Tour


On arrival, a full safety brief and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be given before the tour starts.


Tour Guides or Security Staff will confirm:

  • Your personal details
  • Check your proof of identification and take a copy for their records
  • That you have no personal bags, mobile phones, cameras, recording devices (all these items are prohibited and must be left in your vehicle before the start of the visit, they will not be allowed onto the location) If you have any special requirements such as the need to carry medication, please notifyglsgwymvicechair@imechenearyou.org,immediately upon registering for this event
  • That you have read and signed a Security Declaration Form

You will be asked to consent to a personal search which will be conducted using a handheld metal detector and/or an explosive vapour detector.
