Description

Rovco, headquartered in Bristol and with offices in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, is a world-leading provider of marine robotic, hydrographic and survey services across the offshore energy industry lifecycle, combining award-winning innovative robotic platforms and cutting-edge technology. The business applies artificial intelligence and 3D computer vision technologies subsea, enabling its clients to realise substantial reductions in project costs, schedule time, and emissions.

In this talk, Ben will focus on the development of SubSLAM X2, the first real-time intelligent data collection system that delivers live underwater 3D point clouds with sub-millimetre accuracy. A highlight of Rovco’s technology offering, SubSLAM X2 tracks relative position perfectly without relying on any other external sensors, such as USBL, LBL or INS, completing measurements in a fraction of the time. Equipped with machine vision sensors and fast onboard processors, this state-of-the-art technology captures and creates next-generation data with unrivalled precision.

Speaker(s)

Ben Leslie is a Senior Computer Vision Engineer who recently led a £1m Innovate UK project to develop the hardware and algorithms for ROVCO’s smart camera system. Ben holds an MSc in Machine Learning from Bristol University, and an MA in Pure Mathematics from the University of Edinburgh.
