Description

When a component or a structure is subjected cyclic loading this needs to be taken into account in the initial design and then over the its lifetime to ensure structural integrity.

This presentation will discuss the definitions of fatigue and how there are different approaches, namely fatigue damage and fatigue crack growth, on how we design to accommodate fatigue loading within a component or structure. Finally we will discuss how to mitigate the effect of fatigue loading and present a couple of case studies relevant to welded strictures and bolts.
