Methane is a potent greenhouse gas with up to 100 times the global warming potential of CO2and the largest contributor to global carbon emissions after CO2. North Sea operators have committed to reduce their methane emissions by 50% by 2030, from 1.3 million tonnes CO2equivalent in 2018. This is not only required by governments, but also now expected by stakeholders and consumers.
How will this be achieved? A key requirement is the ability to confidently and accurately detect, localise and quantify methane emissions from offshore assets – safely and cost effectively. OGMP 2.0 dictates direct, top-down measurements. Only then can remedial actions be taken to ensure that future methane emissions meet those targets.
This presentation will introduce various technologies and processes that exist today, with case studies on drone-deployed surveys performed in the UK North Sea.We will meet at 6pm for tea and coffee. Lecture will begin at 6.30pm.
