What makes for a good engineering design? What do design engineers need to consider when embarking on a outline and detailed design to provide a solution? This talk will focus on the good practice that needs to be employed right from the concept stage through to volume production.

It will also look at what happens if certain fundamental elements are not considered at the design stage of a project. Some considerations for a road map for good engineering design practices as well as some food for thought will be discussed.

The talk will conclude with a light hearted review of what can go wrong when designs do not work out as planned!

Speaker(s)

Dr. Andrew Bayton CEng FIMechE has been a design engineer for over twenty five years working in some challenging areas such as the automotive, rail and steel industries. He now works for a water utility company and responsible for technical standards and project performance.
