Description

Britain has pioneered the development of modern communication technology. Our speaker Dr John Moyle will outline milestone events in this process. He will explain how this took place principally in Cornwall with technologies progressing from fire beacons to fibre optics. The complete cycle progress ranges from optical to "copper" to wireless/Radio and back to optical with a Detour through inner space. It was founded in Cornwall because this is the optimum UK Departure location for a cable link to the USA. His talk is a fascinating account well illustrated showing state of the art equipment accompanied by numerous anecdotes. We will also be enlightened about communications taking place when the Titanic sank. This promises to be a stimulating presentation well worth joining.
