    The Dorchester and Weymouth Area will be holding their 2016 AGM in accordance with IMechE volunteer committee rules. New committee members will be proposed and elected to posts. All are invited to attend the AGM and we are always looking for additional committee members, particularly young members, so why not come along and have a chat. This will be followed by the 50th OGM which attendees of the AGM are welcome to stay for.

  • A Maritime Autonomous System for Naval Operations

    Dave Berry of ATLAS ELEKTRONIK UK Ltd will be presenting a talk on the challenges associated with developing Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) with an Autonomous Mine Countermeasures (MCM) capability. Reconfigurable with Mission Modules, ARCIMS provides the Royal Navy with a modular and highly transportable multi-role autonomous capability which can be optionally manned. The development of ARCIMS for influence mine sweeping will be presented which takes the “man out of the minefield”.

  • Decommissioning Nuclear Reactors at Winfrith

    Winfrith was a 350 acre prototype reactor site for civil nuclear power operating up to nine reactors and numerous other facilities. Alan Bennett will talk about the major successes in decommissioning at Winfrith to date and go on to discuss some of the challenges that still remain and present proposed solutions to complete decommissioning and closure of the Winfrith nuclear licensed site.
