    NMF-Sea Systems is based at the National Oceanography Centre at Southampton and operates the two Royal Research vessels James Cook and Discovery. The talk will cover the build, and early service periods of the new vessel RRS Discovery including the operational aspects such as manoeuvrability and navigation as well as information about the deployment systems and sampling techniques commonly in use.

    The presentation will provide a brief introduction to ATLAS ELEKTRONIK UK based at Winfrith, Dorset and then describe the transition underway from traditional naval minehunting to assets deployed either remotely or autonomously. It will then go onto describe a new generation of sonar able to discriminate between mines and other seabed objects and discuss techniques to provide Automated Target Recognition. Conclusions will then be presented.

    Team Invictus is a Bristol-based team comprising a number of aerospace engineers and professional sailors who share a common vision to produce a highly efficient, exceptional and original craft to compete in the next International C-Class Catamaran Challenge. The lecture will cover the event, how it started and how it has evolved and innovated over the years, covering the various design approaches in terms of aerodynamic, hydrodynamic and structure design.
