Virtual Visit to Diamond Light SourceDate and time:Wednesday 24thFebruary, 5:00 to 7:00pmOur colleagues in the Nuclear Institute have kindly invited us to join them in their virtual tour of the Diamond Light Source Facilities at Harwell. This is a unique opportunity to visit this outstanding facilityVisit Description:Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron. It works like a giant microscope, harnessing the power of electrons to produce bright light that scientists can use to study anything from fossils to jet engines to viruses and vaccines. Diamond is one of the most advanced scientific facilities in the world, and its pioneering capabilities are helping to keep the UK at the forefront of scientific research.During your virtual visit you will hear about how the particle accelerator accelerates electrons to near the speed of light so that they give off light 10 billion times brighter than the sun, how these bright beams are then directed off into laboratories known as ‘beamlines’, and how scientists use this light to study a vast range of subject matter, from new medicines and treatments for disease to innovative engineering and cutting-edge technology. You will then take a virtual tour of the facility, visiting areas normally out of bounds for visitors. Questions are encouraged!Registration:The NI request that those who wish to take part in the visit simply register via the link below.Registration only requires a name and email address. Once registered you will receive your individual joining links.注册链接NI CEB Diamond Visit 2021-02-24Date: Wed 24 Feb 2021Booking Deadline: Wed 24 Feb 2021Venue: Online
