Find out about the Mid Hants Railway Watercress Line's Heritage Lottery Fund supported Canadian Pacific Project. This talk covers the history of the steam locomotive at the heart of this project Merchant Navy Class locomotive 35005 'Canadian Pacific' and its two wooden framed carriages. Exploring the work that the staff and volunteers of the Mid Hants Railway are completing to get this locomotive back to working order and the issue that have been found in its restoration.

In 1791 the metre was defned as one ten-millionth of the distance from the North Pole to the Equator. Two of France’s foremost astronomers set out from Paris on a six-year mission: to measure the length of the Paris meridian from Dunquerque to Barcelona. The talk gives an overview of the hazards and hardships they endured. It also includes a detailed look at the technical aspect of the measurements they made, up to the final announcement of the length of the metre.
