Are We Prepared For A Flood of Lava?

(A talk on the impacts of the Loki Flood Basalt.)

箴fessor Kathy Cashman is a world leading volcanologist currently working at theUniversity of Bristolwhose work has taken her around the world to study lava flows in Hawaii and Italy. Professor Cashman has also studied explosive eruptions and was working in the USGS at the time of the Mt St Helens eruption.

Flood basalts present an untold threat to life as we know it due to the gases erupted. Historically there have been many flood basalt eruptions, some have been linked to the Permian, Triassic-Jurassic and Cretaceous-Tertiary mass extinction events.

Just on our doorstep, in Iceland, there is the potential for a volcanic event which could change our way of life forever…
