STEM activities completed in Yorkshire
The Yorkshire Region is doing a lot to inspire the next generation of budding engineers. We invite you to view some of our activities and to consider volunteering your time.
Get Up To Speed with STEM
Get up to Speed is an annual event held at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham, aiming to introduce, inform and inspire students, parents and teachers on the world of work. Each event is filled with fun and interactive exhibits from local employers to showcase their industry and employment opportunties.
For over 10 years,Get up to Speed with STEMhas focused on and celebrated the Science, Technology, Engineering & Manufacturing sectors and the IMechE Yorkshire Region has been a proud sponsor of the event for many years.
This year's event, held on the29th March 2023, saw best-ever attendance numbers at over 5000 people and the IMechE stand, supported by volunteers from our South Yorkshire Area Committee and Young Members, enjoyed continuous engagement with young school students throughout the day. The Big Bang Yorkshire and Humber
The Yorkshire Region actively supports the national Big Bang initiative. The Yorkshire and Humber event held in June at Doncaster Race Course was supported by our members who ran a design, build and test activity using Kinex parts. Students built cars inspired by the Bloodhound SuperSonic Car project. A test track allowed the cars to be launched using compressed air.
While building and testing was taking place our members talked about different types of engineers involved in the design and make of the actual Bloodhound car. Literature about engineering careers was given out to students, teachers, carers and parents.
