DESCRIPTION

WHAT IS ‘SOFE’:Speak Out for Engineering (SOfE) is the annual presentation competition for IMechE young members. Here we give the opportunity to present on a technical topic of competitor’s own choice in front of a panel of judges who will assess the entries and provide feedback. It is a competition designed to help develop verbal and visual communication in explaining technical topics.

WHO CAN ENTER:

The competition is open to any affiliate, associate or young member of the Institution who has been professionally registered for ten years or less.

AIM OF THE COMPETITION:

The aim of the competition is to develop your presentation/communication skills and being able to deliver a technical presentation to a primarily non-technical audience. What we are looking for are enthusiastic people who want to develop their presentation skills.

WHAT COMPETITORS HAVE TO DO:

Competitors in SOfE can select any technical topic; a technical hobby or interest, a university or work-related project or even something unique for the competition. They are required to prepare a written presentation summary of 200 words maximum, which should be sent to the organizer when notification is given of the intention to enter the competition. On the competition day, competitors are to give an oral presentation on their selected prepared topic. They can use presentation slides, materials or prop to aid their presentation.

JUDGING CRITERIA

90% of the total marks are given for presentation with only 10% for technical content. This ensures that, while all presentations must have mechanical engineering content in its broadest sense (e.g. purpose, research, design, feasibility, and practicality), all presentations have the same chance of success despite varying degrees of technical content.

PERKS FOR THE WINNERS:

The three winners will get a chance to compete at national level with the winners of SOfE North in "ALL PAKISTAN SOfE COMPETITION" sponsored by IMechE Pakistan.
