Description

Inspired by the Design Challenge Engineering Competition that is organized daily by IMechE UK, Pakistan too is organizing this under the banner of IMechE. In fact, Pakistan became the first country after UK to run this competition.

It was a common observation that most of the engineering challenges were kept for penultimate or final year students with the freshmen and sophomores given very limited exposure to the entire engineering process – from conceptualization to fabrication. To fill in this void, the Young Members Panel Pakistan, has initiated this challenge throughout the country.

This competition allows the unique blend of application of knowledge with healthy competition to bring the best out of our freshmen. Very early on, students are being groomed in the art of design and analysis engineering which can go a long way in overcoming the dearth of specialist designers in the country.

National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad went an extra mile. Realizing the importance of this competition and in line with the Washington Accord’s new regulations, incorporated this design challenge into its engineering curricula for mechanical engineering as part of the complex engineering problem.

Pakistan is in the process of revamping its higher education system to produce quality engineers capable of resolving its issues through application of their knowledge. To ensure that it reaches its intended targets of technological and economic growth, IMechE aims to play its role.
