Description

This presentation will show how important new materials and their associated manufacturing processes are to the performance and capabilities of the modern aviation engine. It will also discuss the history, state of the art and potential for future developments in the field. Since the aero gas turbine was invented by Whittle and first realised by Von Ohain, its capabilities have been both limited and enabled by the materials from which it is constructed.
