Adelaide’s Metropolitan Passenger Rail Network has been a part of city life for over 150 years. Motive power moved from steam to diesel in the late 1950s, but although late 20thcentury railcars are in service, we still rely on diesel traction today.
In 2008, the SA Government announced the electrification of the Adelaide Metropolitan Passenger Rail Network with the first electric trains scheduled to run in late 2013. This presentation explores what is required to be put in place, what has been achieved and what are the remaining steps in bringing electric motive power to Adelaide’s Metropolitan Passenger Rail Network.
