Electric Vehicle Development: Market Strategy, Technology, and Safety

The participants will learn the electric vehicle (EV) development process from market research to technology development that will pave the way for the implementation of the electric vehicle in Indonesia, Malaysia, and ASEAN market.

The talk show will be begin with the international benchmarking of the EV projected market, public acceptance, infrastructure requirements, and strategic roadmap and planning for EV implementation. EV technology challenges in terms of vehicle safety, battery system, and powertrain will be discussed with the available data from the field incidences.

Next, the product development phases of the electric vehicle will be outlined starting from Conceptual Design, Detail Design, Validation Certification, and Production Phases. Vehicle platform and system architecture configuration for the EV will be discussed which include chassis, electric motor, battery and its management system, vehicle control and instrumentation.

The Reserved Energy Storage System (RESS) technology for the Lithium-ion based battery will be discussed in greater detail since this is the most critical system in the EV. Some examples of battery safety issues in the field will be provided as part of lessons learned on how to develop robust system of the RESS. Finally, EV safety regulation and certification will be discussed along with the tests and inspection procedures to maintain the roadworthiness of the EV.
