Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV) is a British, private limited company commercialising Airlander, an innovative hybrid aircraft that delivers ultra-low emissions, cost-effective passenger transport, freight and airborne sensing services. The company has invested over £120m in research and development, has built a reserved orderbook totalling over $750m and is preparing to launch a new aircraft assembly line which will employ over 1800 people in South Yorkshire. Airlander represents a new transportation category, between today’s fast, expensive, carbon-intensive air services and slower, infrastructure-dependent surface transport. Its in-service emissions are typically 10x fewer than conventional aircraft. Airlander can operate without fixed infrastructure, taking off and landing from any relatively flat surface, including water. Airlander enables new direct, large-scale, mid-speed, low-impact services and will enable system-level change to transport networks.
